The original symbols tended to have longer cooldowns (hammer is the exception). Almost all of the added symbols are on relatively short cooldowns. And some of the original cooldowns were reduced. The original symbols' boons weren't all that spectacular. Swiftness in a static area and the others were regeneration and retaliation.
It's exactly 2.5 sec, it's not that long, you can cast it early too, so if you build it up for 3 seconds and get no damage, you're either playing wrong grandmaster trait or just don't understand the spec. Warrior is tanky even in full zerker, so taking some damage for 2.5 sec won't kill you.

Go to Malice's desk near Ash Legion Camp POI and look for the four symbols there. The order goes from left to right and the 4 symbols changes daily. Salvaging gear with the Masters/Mystic/Silverfed has a slightly lower chance to yield charms and symbols, but it still should be used for rare (yellow) gear because the slightly better chance to get ectoplasma outweighs that. So rather use the Master Kit (or equivalent) on yellow gear and sell the ectos to buy charms/symbols you need.

Your possibilities for the DSD name also don't match what you've listed as possibilities for a number of those symbols (for example, symbol 4 you posit as representing Svaard's armor. Svaard's armor is an ascended armor set. All armor pieces in this set are created from a Svaard's Marauder Insignia and therefore have Marauder stats.
